Racing and Gaming Commission Ready for Next Step in Socio-Economic Study

THE IOWA RACING AND GAMING COMMISSION THIS WEEK WILL SELECT A COMPANY THAT WILL BE CHARGED WITH EXAMINING THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF GAMBLING ON IOWA. ADMINISTRATOR BRIAN OHORILKO SAYS IT WILL COVER A WIDE RANGE OF ISSUES, INCLUDING THE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE, THE INDIVIDUALS IN THE COMMUNITY, AND THE BUSINESSES.  THEY WILL ALSO LOOK AT PROBLEM GAMBLING AND HOW TREATING THOSE INDIVIDUALS IMPACTS THE COMMUNITY.  THE STUDY WILL BE ONE OF THE COMPONENTS USED BY THE BOARD TO DECIDE WHETHER TO GRANT CEDAR RAPIDS A GAMBLING LICENSE FOR A NEW CASINO.
