Mountain Lion Killed in Iowa to be on Display at State Fair

A MOUNTAIN LION KILLED BY DES MOINES POLICE OFFICERS LAST YEAR WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT THE IOWA STATE FAIR.

THE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCED MONDAY THAT THE ANIMAL WILL BECOME PART OF ITS COLLECTION OF DES MOINES POLICE HISTORIC ARTIFACTS. THE ANIMAL WAS SHOT IN A RESIDENT'S BACK YARD IN OCTOBER.

POLICE SAY THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES EXAMINED THE MOUNTAIN LION AND THEN RETURNED IT TO THE DEPARTMENT TO BE MOUNTED BY A TAXIDERMIST. A DONATION FROM THE DES MOINES POLICE BURIAL ASSOCIATION PAID FOR THE WORK.

THE MOUNTAIN LION CAN BE SEEN IN THE IOWA DNR BUILDING DURING THE 2013 FAIR, AND WILL THEN BE RETURNED FOR PERMANENT DISPLAY AT THE DES MOINES POLICE MUSEUM.

THE STATION MUSEUM IS OPEN WEEKDAYS BETWEEN 7 A.M. AND 7 P.M.
