Iowa City Reaches Settlement With Insurance Company on Landfill Fire

15 MONTHS AFTER THE WEEKS LONG FIRE AT THE IOWA CITY LANDFILL...THE CITY HAS FINALLY REACHED A INSURANCE SETTLEMENT.  COUNCIL MEMBER SUSAN MIMS SAYS THE FIRE CAUSED $3.4 MILLION IN DAMAGE AND THE TRAVELERS COMPANIES' INITIAL PAYMENT TO THE CITY WAS $155,000. SHE SAYS THE SETTLEMENT IS FOR $1.85 MILLION AND LANDFILL FEES WILL HELP TO COVER THE REST.  WORK ON A REPLACEMENT CELL IS NEARLY COMPLETE AND SHOULD BE FULLY OPERATIONAL WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS.
