Community Activist to Run for Iowa City City Council

A COMMUNITY ACTIVIST IN IOWA CITY HAS DECIDED TO RUN FOR A SEAT ON THE CITY COUNCIL. ROYCEANN PORTER IS SEEKING THE DISTRICT B SEAT HELD BY CONNIE CHAMPION WHO IS RETIRING AT THE END OF HER TERM. PORTER SERVES ON THE CITY'S POLICE CITIZENS REVIEW BOARD AND SAYS HER PRIORITIES INCLUDE EXPANDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES AND ATTRACTING MORE LIVING-WAGE JOBS. PORTER'S ALSO INVOLVED WITH THE COALITION FOR RACIAL JUSTICE AND SAYS MORE MINORITY REPRESENTATION IS NEEDED IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT. CURRENT AT-LARGE COUNCIL MEMBER TERRY DICKENS HAS ANNOUNCED THAT HE'S RUNNING FOR THE DISTRICT B SEAT.
