Changes to Iowa's graduated drivers license system coming in January

YOUNG DRIVERS AND PARENTS NEED TO BE AWARE OF UPCOMING CHANGES TO IOWA'S GRADUATED DRIVER'S LICENSE SYSTEM COMING JANUARY 1ST. MARK LOWE, D-O-T DIRECTOR OF MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION SAYS INSTRUCTIONAL TIME HAS BEEN INCREASED UP TO 12 MONTHS, FROM 6, BEFORE AN INTERMEDIATE LICENSE CAN BE OBTAINED. LOWE SAYS IT ALSO AFFECTS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THE CAR.

@THE NEW LAW ALSO LIMITS A YOUNG DRIVER WITH A MINOR SCHOOL LICENSE TO ONE UNRELATED MINOR PASSENGER WHEN DRIVING WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION. UNLIKE THE INTERMEDIATE LICENSE, THIS RESTRICTION APPLIES AS LONG AS THE YOUNG DRIVER HOLDS A MINOR SCHOOL LICENSE.
